VR 4 SKILLS

Bridging Competency Gaps in Higher Education Staff Across Europe

As part of the VR4Skills project – Comprehensive Training Framework for Leaders of Internationalization enhanced by Virtual Reality (VR) in a post-pandemic era, a project meeting took place in Belgium from October 2 to 4, 2023. This meeting marked a pivotal moment, setting important guidelines for achieving project outcomes.

The activities during this project meeting, held at UCLL in Leuven, Belgium, included ‘Train the Trainer’ training and a project meeting with the partners involved in the project. The meeting was attended by Nina Turčin, the project manager at DOBA Faculty, and Mag. Vesna Kolenc Potočnik, who will be involved in the training implementation.

The ‘Train the Trainer’ session covered topics related to developing modules for the competency development of non-academic staff at European universities. The training preparation is based on the skills gap analysis conducted in the project’s initial phase.

Participants familiarized themselves with various teaching methods, including:

  • Kolb’s Learning Cycle
  • Problem-solving/Scenario/Case-based Learning
  • Self-paced Learning
  • Flipped Classroom
  • Gagne’s 9 Events of Instruction or Gagne’s Teaching Model

A special focus of the meeting was also dedicated to crafting scenarios for the use of virtual reality, which will be employed in the project to enhance the competencies of the target group.

Based on the acquired knowledge, trainers will prepare a training program scheduled for pilot implementation in January and April 2024.
